Barrister Banco ChambersFarid Assaf SC is a leading Australian commercial silk at Banco Chambers, with a national practice spanning corporate governance, corporate regulation, cross border insolvency and restructuring, and complex commercial litigation. He appears in major trial and appellate matters for private clients and public authorities, including ASIC and the Australian Taxation Office. Farid is also registered as a foreign lawyer in the Singapore International Commercial Court and admitted to practise in the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts.
Before being called to the Bar, Farid was a lawyer with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, where he developed extensive experience in corporate regulation, investigations and enforcement. That background continues to inform his advisory and advocacy practice, particularly in matters involving board governance, regulatory risk and corporate accountability.
Farid is a recognised leader in corporate and cross border insolvency and restructuring. He is a Fellow of INSOL International, graduating with Honours and First in Class, and the author of the leading insolvency texts published by LexisNexis. Building on that foundation, Farid has developed a particular focus on the legal and governance implications of artificial intelligence. In 2025, he completed the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and has since published and presented on AI governance and the responsible corporate deployment of AI.
